PINEAPPLE LEAVES

Piñatex is an innovative, natural and sustainable non-woven fabric made by designer Carmen Hijosa. The fibers that make up Piñatex are extracted from the pineapple leaves of the plantations by the farmers before they are cut and stratified. Then, the fibers go through an industrial process at the end of which the material is obtained.
The material has a similar appearance to linen fabric and can be painted, printed and treated to give it certain types of textures. With certain treatment, Piñatex can look like leather and is manufactured in different thicknesses, depending on the finished product for which it will be used. For bags, for example, a thicker material is needed.
